Somehow a day like today, steeped in superstition, seems like a purrfect excuse to watch Black Butler. While there are many theories as to the origins of Friday the 13th as a day of bad luck, one of the more popular ones is that King Phillip of France who was deeply indebted to the Knights Templar (because they were an international banking institution of their day lending money to countries, monarchs, and other persons of wealth) sent out an order for all the Knights Templar in France to be arrested on Friday, October 13 in 1307. Of those successfully arrested, most were eventually tortured to death. A few weeks later in November, the Pope, Clement V, issued a papal decree to all the monarchs of Europe and the Christian faith to arrest and confiscate the possessions and lands of all Knights Templar wherever they could be found. That Friday the 13th was certainly unlucky for the Knights Templar.

Black Butler Fourth of July Event!So, as you all are aware the fourth of July is tomorrow. Since we know our Black Butler fans are awesome, we’d like to get Ciel and the gang participating in the festivities! It’ll be a lot of fun, are you up for the challenge? Without further ado, we present to you-
Red, White and You!
During July 4th we want Black Butler to take over tumblr! Participants for the ‘Red, White and You’ event will post pictures, art, cosplay, crafts or anything else Black Butler themed on tumblr. The catch? All of it must be Fourth themed, even if it’s just about the red, white and/or blue colors. This could mean posting a picture of a Sebastian keychain while grilling, or a Grell plushie under fireworks, or even just a simple drawing with red, white and blue in it. Remember, this is supposed to be fun! Be as creative or simplistic as you want.
Since we know you’ll be out and about on the Fourth, we are giving you all day Wednesday and all day Thursday to participate in this event.
There will be two selected fans who will get total bragging rights. One will be picked by FUNimation and the other will be whoever gets the most reblogs/likes on their post. They will receive shout-outs from our official FUNimation Twitter and Facebook accounts. This is YOUR chance to be in the spotlight!
Now, the rules-
- All entries submitted must be TV14 and under.
- All entries must have the “BlackButler4th” tag!
- Entries must be 4th themed, or feature prominently red, white and/or blue.
Keep in mind that Black Butler is known for having a lot of dynamically colored characters, like Grell and Madame Red. Take advantage of their color schemes!

You’ve been wondering, and now you know: This weekend is Sebastian Appreciation Weekend!
Why? Because we say so, and let’s face it how much of a reason do we really need? So let’s show some love to our favorite, one-hell-of-a-butler. For those of you who remember Grell Appreciation Weekend, you know just how much fun we had.
The Sebastian Appreciation Weekend will kick off Friday, and last through Monday. For a four-day Sebastianganza, we wanted to use the ample opportunity to give each day a bit of a theme!
- Friday - Sebastian - the one - the only - hell of a butler
- Saturday - Sebastian & Ciel
- Sunday - Sebastian & Claude
- Monday - Sebastian & more! (Grell, Agni, etc.)
And you can interpret those categories as you wish. Sebastian appears in so many things, we thought the categories would be a fun way of helping to divide up the weekend. The only requirement is both of the characters have to be present for Saturday, Sunday, and whatever grouping you want to use on Monday.
